ARIX
ARIX stands for Automated Robot Innovation eXtreme and was designed to interact with human beings. Most robots can not interact and just work on there own, so I wanted to make a robot that could acheive human interaction. I used two RCX's and an NXT to make ARIX. The NXT reads the environment and tells the RCX's what to do using the Infared Links sensor. The RCXs control the shoulder rotation, the elbows, and the head turning. The NXT controls the shoulder lifting, the prize dispenser, and all the sensors. The two programs on ARIX are Interactive Mode and ARIX Hero.
INTERACTIVE MODE
Interactive Mode is the program that allows Arix to interact with humans. Depending on what you do to Arix, he will respond differently. He shows emotions with his head, voice, and arms.
1. If you press Arix's nose, he will flail his arms and say OUCH!
2. If you scare Arix by getting to close, he will raise his arms, scream, turn his head away, then cry for a few seconds.
3. If you tickle Arix by pressing the orange button, he will laugh and shake his arms.
4. If you shine a bright light at Arix, he will turn away until you turn off the light.
5. If you tickle Arix twice, he will say Ouch, and cry.
6. When you press the Left and Right buttons, Arix will tell diferrent jokes on the NXT's screen.
ARIX Hero
Arix Hero is a game similar to Guitar Hero that can be played on the NXT screen. The song that is played is The Entertainer. Notes come down the screen on the right, middle, and left. You have to hold down the correct button to hit the note. If you miss one note, you lose, but there aren't too many notes and the game isn't too difficult. The game takes practice to learn so it is almost impossible to win on the first try.
I've added two videos of ARIX, interactive mode, and ARIX Hero. Have questions? E-mail at nxtmaniac@gmail.com
